Crime Victims' Memorial
The Crime Victims’ Memorial
is located within the slopes of Highland Park. The memorial was created to
remind those who pass by of the local, national and global impact of crime on
the lives of its victims. The fountain symbolizes the eruption of crime. As the
water forces its way out, we are reminded of the sheer force of crime as it
occurs. Bits and pieces of bronze, seen in the river, symbolize the breaking
apart of victims’ lives. At the end of the river, there is a compilation of
these shattered pieces. The compilation symbolizes the re-unification that
occurs following the victimization through the support of family, friends and
the community. The support of all is the key to the strength of overcoming the
tragedies created by crime.
